Ferry Cancellation Due to Technical or Mechanical Issues
In the unfortunate circumstance that the ferry is cancelled due to a mechanical fault, you are required to book local accomidation yourself, with Calmac refunding you £100 per person, per night for a maximum of 3 nights.
If this occurrence happens, it is recommended to get on CalMac's rebooking list for the following day as soon as possible. If the main ferry is out of service, Calmac will charter smaller boats, some of which might only take up to ten passengers. Another challenge can be finding an available skipper for the boat.
If CalMac is able to charter a boat from Arisaig (and one of the boats which holds 80 passengers), they will arrange transport to the departure point, which is only a short distance from Mallaig.
Please keep in touch with Calmac if you are having issues booking accomidation as they have local connections which aren’t readily avalible to the public and often just used for Calmac staff.
If you are on CalMac's rebooking list for the following day, I would recommend arriving at the CalMac office the next day when it opens, regardless of your position on the list. This can improve your chances of securing a place on whatever sailing is avalible, as many people on the list may cancel or fail to turn up.
