Island Woman. Sheena Maclead doll and spinning wheel. Scottish doll. Vintage doll.
This doll has been kept in her original box and is in excellent condition - she comes with her original tag and box plus spinning wheel.
Sheena Macleod was a world famous award winning Scottish doll maker. She made 12 character styles of dolls, from women who gathered seaweed and lichen for dying tweed, to fishwife and knitter and spinners from the Highland and Islands.
All the fabrics are Scottish made, the hands and feet made from clay. The body is made of cloth over a wire armature and the hair is real lambswool.
Her original tag reads:
Island Woman. Women in the Outer Isles of Harris and Lewis, where weaving is still the major industry, collected various lichen from the shore and moor and used them to dye the yarn for their now world famous tweeds.
