Keening dolls hold stories. They can help hold the grief, memories and stories you carry. The can hold those feelings which we might not have the words to express, and provide a point of connection between you and the source of your grief.

Part of the doll can be as a remembrance of the person who has died, while part can represent the part of you that needs to be tended to, that needs to sit with grief and needs healing.

A keening doll accompanies you on your grief journey, and it shifts and changes over time. The dolls inspiration is the long unbroken history of the keening woman stretching back to pre-Christian times.

Making process design & embellishments

This doll is made over a wire armature so her arms are moveable. Her body is made from British core wool from UK small holdings (small farms). This style of doll is a half body doll, with no legs, allowing the fabric to hang and provide the length. .

Her fabrics are a mix of upcycled black materials, some with frayed edges.
