Keening dolls hold stories. They can help hold the grief, memories and stories you carry. The can hold those feelings which we might not have the words to express. They can provide a point of connection in our grief - connecting you and also having a connection to the person who has moved on.

Part of the doll can be as a remembrance of the person who has died, while part can represent the part of you that needs to be tended to, that needs to sit with grief and needs healing.

A keening doll is a reminder of the journey of grief, we aren’t aiming to get rid of grief, but to become a little more familiar with it, so we can roar, and sob - and slowly but surely our grief changes as we walk with it a little more each day.

Making process design & embellishments

This doll is made over a wire armature so her arms are moveable. Her body is made from British core wool from UK small holdings (small farms).

Her fabrics are up-cycled and are a mix of natural and synthetic materials.

The twigs were collected from birch tree which came down in storm Éowyn in Jan 2025. While the massive intensity of this storm was due to many factors, the collapse of climate systems played a big role.
