Wise Woman. Keening Doll. Holding grief, lamenting, keening.
Wise Woman. Keening Doll. Holding grief, lamenting, keening.
This doll is inspired by the wise woman, often a woman who helped bring life into the world at birth, but also assisted in the return of the soul at death.
She holds stories of what you are bringing into being, as well as representing endings.
Ritual
Her bag is a place for offerings - gratitudes, prayers, intentions - conversations between you and what you might call Goddess, God, the Divine or source and all the thousands of other names we might call the great mystery.
Making process design & embellishments
This doll is made over a wire armature so her arms are moveable. Her body is made from British core wool from UK small holdings (small farms).
Her shawl is made from a recycled Scottish wool shawl, while her other fabrics are up-cycled and are a mix of natural and synthetic materials.
The grey of her bag is yarn produced on the Isle of Colonsay, and she is adorned with 3 limpet shells from a Scottish island. Her bag is embellishment with a Scottish cowrie shell (not Scottish).
The health food store image is a photo I took in Connemara, while visiting family (West of Ireland).
