These prayer beads are inspired by Brighid as bringing keening to the world, from the Irish tradition, due to the death of her son. It also honours brighid as a threshold Goddess - one who is evoked by midwives who bring life into this world, and for those who works midwofe at the end of life, when the soul journeys home.

Formerly known as Celtic Soul Beads, this set of Keening Prayer Beads has pared back to its essentials, made solely from stone, metal, and crystal.

Grief often brings us back to what truly matters.

Grief takes many forms: from anger, frustration and deep sadness to physical symptoms such as exhaustion, insomnia, physical pain, and the unmistakable ache of heartbreak – plus the many other emotional and bodily ways loss is lived through us. And yet, after the tears and the hurt, love can begin to return, filling up that space of loss.

Keening Prayer Beads are made for every stage of this journey. They offer something tangible to hold when you do not know where to begin, and as a way back to finding yourself when loss has left you unmoored.

They are a reminder of our roots: that we are the living ancestors of a long lineage, whether by blood or by adopted belonging, and that there are generations still to come. These beads are a symbol of that unbroken line, which gives us what it Is to be human, both life and the capacity to love.

Their circular form can be symbolised by the wheel of the year or the wellspring, and the great turning of life itself. More than 400 sets of Keening Prayer Beads, are now held in hands around the world.

For me, the strongest image they hold for me is that of the circle of life. Something ancient in me recognises this coming home, and I can return to is by just sitting, quieting the mind and sinking into this space.

This is a space that humans have always yearned to return to, meditation, stillness and quiet.

In this circle is a force human have always recognised: a living current that moves through prayer, gives us life, and finally carries us back again at the end of this one. It holds love and loss, and everything between.

These Keening prayer beads are a reminder that love is a constant, and entwined within our grief and sadness.
